Going Public (ELA)

In this unit, students examine and articulate their own interests and goals as artists, and explore ways of communicating those interests and goals to the public in order to build an audience for their work. Students develop writing skills in two basic areas, promotion and presentation, as they prepare to stage an arts or media event.

Length: 10 50-minute sessions

Unit Project Description

Students complete two writing projects in support of an art exhibition or other event. In Part 1, each student writes a press release conveying essential information about his or her chosen event. In Part 2, students complete artist statements, in which they reflect on themselves as artists and describe their work in the show or event.
